About the book:

Known to many as “The Godfather of Swamp Pop,” Warren “Storm” Schexnider is a Louisiana music legend with a career spanning over seventy years. In Taking the World, by Storm, author and fellow musician Yvette Landry talks with Storm about his life, starting with his boyhood in rural Vermilion Parish. From meeting Elvis at Graceland, to shaking Hank Williams’s hand, to sharing the stage with Robert Plant and his idol, Fats Domino, Warren’s endless stories and anecdotes, as well as his incredible collection of photographs and memorabilia, open a window into the life of an important figure in American music. As is the case for many a career musician, Storm’s road has not been an easy one to travel. Here, for the first time in print, Warren tells his own story and the story of swamp pop in his own words.

About the author(s):

Yvette Landry grew up in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. A Grammy-nominated, award-winning vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter, Yvette has recorded on twenty-three records, including her own award-winning debut album titled Should Have Known (2010). Yvette is also a noted children’s author, whose first book, The Ghost Tree (2012), received a nomination for Louisiana’s “Young Readers’ Choice Award” and represented Louisiana at the National Book Fair in Washington, D.C. Both of her children’s books, The Ghost Tree and Madame Grand Doigt, were formally accepted into the Library of Congress Collection for Children’s Literature. When not playing music or writing, Yvette stays busy as a private homeschool teacher and an adjunct professor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

From the Foreword by Marc Broussard:

"If you like a good conversation with a good friend, you’ve found a companion like no other. All you’ve got to do is prompt Warren, and the stories begin to flow. In this book, Yvette Landry does just that, skillfully, like only a truly great writer can. Prompt Warren and he will take care of the rest. He’ll have you smiling and laughing the whole way."
